Cultural planning is more than words, it is a necessary responsibility which can bring about economic advantage.
Service providers have a social responsibility to meet the diverse needs of their community in an equitable manner. The service needs of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) clients can often be different. Services will need to understand this difference in order to provide a relevant service.
Many services may need to adapt or change aspects of their service to meet diverse cultural needs. All changes should be made in a systematic way to avoid wasted resources and disruption of general service provision.
Planning will reflect the service more accurately and enable service gaps to be identified and corrected. Cultural Planning will also fulfil the contractual obligations of many organisations and assist in attracting appropriate funds.
A Cultural Plan is a document that outlines an agency’s commitment to increasing access and improving the quality of service to clients from CALD backgrounds.
A Cultural Plan provides agencies with clear direction and identified goals. Planning should seek to address service barriers that exist for CALD clients and cover all areas of service provision.
