Forum Overview
This forum offers an opportunity to gain insight into Australia’s Indigenous culture and aims to
facilitate understanding about Indigenous Australians.
Forum content will include:
- An overview of Indigenous communities: past and present
- Understanding myths and stereotypes about Indigenous people
- Indigenous family structures, cultural practices, expectations, sensitivities, protocol and appropriate terminology.
- Recognizing barriers and challenges faced by Indigenous Australians regarding
- service access
- Developing effective approaches to building culturally sensitive workplaces
- An overview of resources available
Keynote Speaker – Ron Murray
Ron Murray is a descendant of the Wamba Wamba tribe of Swan Hill, Victoria. Ron
has worked for Indigenous communities in educating the wider community over the
past 15 years and has conducted Indigenous awareness workshops across the
community, government, education and corporate sectors.
